The font-Journal is currently under developmentA Catalog of Fonts Collected by Symbiotic DesignGothic (sans serif) Roman (serif) Script (typeface or hand) Hand Print New Age (grunge, etc.) font-Journal index: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z With hundreds of thousands of good fonts to chose from, it is sometimes quite a difficult task to chose that special font. Since the file system of present day computers have a very real limit to how many files can be placed in a single folder, Symbiotic Design tries to never have more than 500-600 font files installed at any one time. This makes it extremely difficult to preview or find that special font at certain times. Though there are many font oriented web sites (both freeware and commercial), these sites usually do not even include a halfway decent representation of the full character set. Apparently, this is too much work for freeware font sites and commercial font sites whom are fearful that you will use the image to produce what you need (of course, it's way too much work and not worth the time). Therefore, searching for and downloading a particular font can wind-up a real struggle when you don't even get a complete character set. Especially for a designer, a full font set is a major priority. The freeware font sites are also notorious for pop-up advertisements, and I am just plain sick of these. Furthermore, many font web sites do not even mention the author and/or publisher, even though it's readily available information. font-Journal will attempt to include a link to each if available, or at least one of these sources. Therefore, we are in the process of creating an online catalog of commercial, shareware, freeware and public domain fonts to help ease our own font searches. Not all of these fonts will be quality fonts. Many might not even have a full character set. Some may not include anything other than alphabetic characters with no numbers or any other characters. Others might include a widely over spaced space character. Some may only be missing the standard ©, or monetary symbols. But a designer needs to quickly reference what is available to him. Fonts are an extremely important peice of even the simplest layout composition. They can also be the very soul of a Trademark. Based on these facts, it's pretty clear why I, as a professional logo/graphic/web/ad designer and typographer, have to setup a catalog of fonts for myself. Since there is no reason not to share this information with the rest of the world, we do so in hopes that we will make a contribution to the online community. This way our clientele can make more informed decisions, other designers, freelancers, students and educators will have a better font catalog which is pop-up hassle-free. Furthermore, we are not associated with any one font publishing company, we simply enjoy what we can find. We hope that this catalog will grow into a valuable tool in the future. Note that development of the font-Journal catalog will be a long process, but I am dedicated to making this a reality. Unfortunately, because this is a free site, I can only devote my spare time to this project. Currently this font catalog has only started. If someone would be interested in sponsoring this site I could spend alot more time on this project.
