Bizarro - A Free Illustrated Font by Dieter Steffman
====================================================

Bizarro is a very bizarrely illustrated font where people and mythilogical creatures are used to form the alphabet capitals. Upper case characters are copied to the lowercase register for ease of use. Other than these 52 letters, there are no other characters. The TrueType (*.ttf) font file came directly from the official Dieter Steffmann archive, but I have included a Postcript version (*.pfm, *pfb & *.afm files) that I found online which appear to be a conversion from the included TTF format, and I am also including the Web Open Font Format (.woff & *.woff2) files that I converted from the TTF file, with all of these fonts apparently at version 1.029.

This is a free font (never to be sold) released for public use by Dieter Steffmann. This font is OK for commercial use, even as a web font. No derivatives are allowed.

Note that Dieter Steffmann once went under the brand, "Typographer Mediengestaltung", as sometimes the Copyright for his font may reflect, but this is still Dieter Steffmann and his typography business brand. You can usually find his business logo in each font, as well.

A FREE FONT
The authoring artist, Dieter Steffmann, has very little restrictions on the use of his free fonts (so, personal/commercial/charity work is OK, and you may use it as a web font {#webfont}, too), EXCEPT that he maintains his full Copyright worldwide, and therefore this font should not be modified or otherwise used to create a derivative font, and that this font should never be sold. The font or fonts in this archive is/are offered 'as is' without any warranty. This has been a quick synopsis on authorized use, more info is given under the DETAILS section, below.

This font/webfont is considered a fontbat, because it uses designs, pictures or silhouettes to depict characters (in this case, just the letters). This font doesn't have a broad use case scenario, but it might be good for a fantasy or mythical movie poster. Application will be limited.

The original archive downloaded from Dieter Steffmann's official font archive was the TrueType font format (the filenames with the *.ttf file extension) in this distribution archive. This is the version I used to create the WOFF versions (*.woff & *.woff2).

However, because I know that Dieter often distributed postscript versions of his TrueType fonts, and since I did find the Postscript version online as well, I am including it here in this archive.

I cannot establish where I got it from and it seems to be missing extracurricular meta data such as version number and Copyright, but it does seem the same version otherwise. So, likely is a conversion, but all the files are there and it seems authentic for this same version. Postscript fonts come with 3 extensions, *afm, *.pfb, & *.pfm. In Windows you can click on the .pfm file to see the font preview.

ARCHIVE ORIGINATION:
This distribution archive has been updated with the font format archive downloaded from Mr. Steffmann's official fonts catalog, then updated with the Postscript versions that I was able to find online. The TrueType version was converted to the WOFF & WOFF2 versions. The original GIF of the style preview samples has been included along with a new preview image showing off more of the detail of this uppercase based pictoral font.

The new characters preview image and this updated documentation were created by Doug Peters of Symbiotic Design for Font-Journal. The fonts have been checked and validated as the most recent known available versions (as of May, 2022).

This text document has been created specifically for distribution with this font archive as a factual document to protect all parties. Any updates to this font or its distribution archive can be found at the dedicated Font-Journal URL for this distribution archive given below:

Please note that Dieter Steffmann has a great many free downloadable typefaces available at Font-Journal. To view all of his fonts that I have added to the font repository so far you can search his name (or use the URL below):

Note however, that Mr. Steffmann created a large volume of free fonts (over 600). I have much to do to include and document each one of his fonts (both the ones I will add and the older ones that have previously been archived before I took over the database and started documenting each new archive).

Perhaps Dieter Steffmann didn't include documentation in his distribution archives because he made them freely available to the public without much restriction on regular use, as the license was usually specified on the download page. But then the license gets separated from the downloaded archive, I, as a designer myself, like to retain proof that a free font I downloaded is as such (a free font along with its documented conditions of use). This is the reason for Font-Journal.

FJ, Me and My Stuff...
----------------------
Font-Journal is a free cataloged font repository website trying to find, journal and archive the very best in freeware or shareware fonts and web fonts, especially if they are authorized for commercial use.

If Font-Journal.com generated an income I could do more, such as hire and train a staff to help catalog, review and give a quick overview of each font, much faster. If you would like to domnate to support the website, go to:

Font-Journal is sponsored by two websites I own, promote & administrate; Domain Hostmaster (for Domain Name Registration & Transfers, Managed Wordpress & Webmaster Tools) & HD Web Hosting (Linux Apache Genuine Cloud Hosting. Heavy Duty Web Hosting for High Trafficked, High-Definition, Business Websites).

I also design fonts myself. I am setting up LastNational.com to feature some of the fonts I have created, but as of this writing & updating this archive, I'm still working on that website updated. Still, you can find most of them on my Font-Journal.com font repository, if you look me up:
