Acorn Initials by Dieter Steffmann
==================================

This is a free first letter or monogram initials font released for public use by Dieter Steffmann. This font/webfont is OK for commercial use, as well.

A FREE FONT
===========
Dieter Steffmann has no restrictions for font use (so, #webfont, too), except that he maintains his Copyright and that this font should not be modified, used to create a derivative, and never should this font be sold. The font or fonts in this archive is/are offered 'as is' without any warranty.

"Acorn Initials" is an elaborately decorated set of roman serif outline capitals letterset with extravagent floral flourishes in the background. The lowercase characters mirror the uppercase capitals and there are no numerals or punctuation, as these characters were intended as monograms, or as that first letter fancy text for a chapter in a book.

I have been looking for a plain text complement for Acorn Initials, and at first I thought that Trajan Pro would work, but no, they are similar but still too different. I might try to create something that would be an inspired similarity in character design, yet still different (I don't ever intend to copy anyone's work). If I get it done, I will update this document with what I created.

The typeface included in this distribution archive is in TrueType font format. Mr. Steffmann designed this font in 2000 and it is currently at it's original, initial release state, version 1.0.

ARCHIVE ORIGINATION
===================
The typeface in this archive was downloaded from Dieter Steffmann's official font repository, and on November 1st, 2020, has been enhanced with the additions of the original font sample image and this note (created by Doug Peters), for Font-Journal, as a means to document the great works Dieter Steffmann has contributed to the world. This is done in the hopes that he will always be credited for his wonderful gifts to humanity, as many of his archives lack any documentation what-so-ever.

This archive can be found at the following URL on Font-Journal.com:
https://www.font-journal.com/fonts/5265/acorn_initials.php
Short URL:
https://w3n.us/acorninitials

Please note that Dieter Steffmann has a great deal of typefaces on Font-Journal. To view it all you can see it at:
https://www.font-journal.com/search.php?d=1&q=Dieter+Steffmann

However, I have much to do to document all his fonts (he made so many, well over 600). The official archives had previously not included any documentation, perhaps because Dieter Steffmann made them freely available to the public without restriction. I will be working to get them all updated with a text sample gif & documentation, eventually (but it's going take a while).

Dieter Steffman
===============
Is a widely talented, retired typographer living in Duetschland (AKA: Germany). Specifically, he lives in the township of Kreuztal in the Siegerland region of DE (DE is the country code abbreviation for Germany). He started computing on the Amiga (as did I). He currently has some health concerns that he shares on his Wordpress blog. He enjoys web administration, photography and hiking, now. He also posts some great photos. Dieter is also quite active on Twitter (and maybe Facebook, not sure about that one). Dieter Steffman's business alias is "Typographer Mediengestaltung" and he created hundreds of fonts between 2000-2013 that are now available free.

This font's official archive was downloaded from:
http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/steffmann/

Specifically:
http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/steffmann/samples/a/acorn.htm

...but the archive lacks the documentation and simple preview gif.

I have added that sample gif (found on that page) to my old archive, along with this documentation which includes the license and a quick history lesson so that it is not lost (in usual Font-Journal fashion), giving professional graphic designers and marketers an easy way to prove that it is free and OK for commercial use, as well as learn a little of the history.

Also, if you notice that the official website(s) for Dieter Steffmann's font collections have a different filename than what I have archived, that has to do with how the collection was recollected and what each individual font repository used in the way of filename conventions. But, there is no Copyright or Trademark on filenames, and fonts will still function regularly with new filenames. Yet, my archive uses the same names that they have always had. This way, if you have previously downloaded a font from Font-Journal.com, you will be warned before saving over an old font file that you are already using. I will only update the font file if there is a new version available in the future with the same reserved font name (and then I will use the current reserved font name as the filename).

I also design fonts myself. I am setting up LastNational.com to feature some of the fonts I have created, but as of this writing & updating this archive on November 1st, 2020, I'm still working on that one. But you can find most of them on my Font-Journal.com font repository, if you look me up:
